YURI wrote another chapter of her life in Manila

by Philippine KPOP Convention July 20, 2023
written by Philippine KPOP Convention

Even the heaving downpour won’t stop PH SONEs from flocking the New Frontier Theater last Sunday, July 9, 2023 for Yuri’s 2nd fanmeeting <Chapter 2>

The night kicked off with ‘Into You’, her single from her debut EP. She then went on with her fanmeeting segment show where she teased fans about her upcoming YouTube content which will also feature the Philippines. She also talked about her various TV roles and shared some more interesting details on each one of it.

After some fanmeeting segments, she proceeded to wow fans with her performance of “1,2 Step”, a song by Ciara, which is also a throwback from the momentous “Into the New World” Asia Tour way back 2010.

She then shared some exclusive photos to PH SONEs and asked them for hashtags using the realtime chat that was only available for the show’s audiences. She then went on to play various challenges. She unfortunately lost but the fans were not disappointed as she had to do a TikTok challenge while wearing a funny hat.

Yuri also performed Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG’s “Lil’ Touch” and Hyoyeon’s “Dessert” to the delight of many.

After all of her fanmeeting segments, she thanked all SONEs for being a part of one the greatest chapters in her life.

For her encore, Yuri sang “Butterfly”, another single from her debut EP, and ended the show with Girls’ Generations’ hit “Gee” to send the crowd home with a happy and nostalgic feeling.

It truly was a show that was years in the making for PH SONEs and we are happy to be part of it.

THE BOYZ are back! ZENERATION World Tour is taking over Manila

by Philippine KPOP Convention July 14, 2023
written by Philippine KPOP Convention

It’s finally happening, PH Deobi’s!

THE BOYZ are back in Manila for their first solo concert, THE BOYZ 2ND WORLD TOUR: ZENERATION, happening this Saturday July 15, 2023, 5PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Formed in 2017, THE BOYZ are known for their outstanding exploration of various concepts throughout their career—from bright and upbeat to a sexy and dark concept, THE BOYZ have done it all making them one of the most versatile acts that introduced a new sound and style to the K-POP scene.

The 11-member group consists of Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, JuHaknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric. Each member has their own characteristics that represent their musicality and style. Since debut, the group’s eccentric musicality and cohesive concepts put them in the limelight. From being students in their debut single, “Boy”, playing werewolves in “Reveal”, to being lifeguards in “Thrill Ride” and to being fallen angels in their most recent comeback “Be Awake”, these boys have really experimented and put their hands with enough concepts that would reel anyone in, and be curious to what they have in stored more.

Rising popularity: Road to Kingdom

In 2020, THE BOYZ participated in a reality competition program, Road to Kingdom, to which they became a household name after showcasing jaw-dropping performances and remixes from their own discography. Bagging the crown made the group even more recognized by the public, receiving praises left and right. They returned on Kingdom: Legendary War on 2021 and ranked 2nd. Their whole stint with the show cemented them as one of the powerful groups of this generation.

BANG YONGGUK takes you out from darkness

by Philippine KPOP Convention July 13, 2023
written by Philippine KPOP Convention

On July 14th, we’ll uncover the “Colors of Bang Yongguk” and before that happens, we’ll take a glimpse of how the K-pop multi-hyphenate continues to prosper in the music scene – from being B.A.P’s leader to a solo singer-songwriter who also produced for other groups.

Bang Yong-guk first released music as part of rap group Soul Connection, under the alias, Jepp Blackman, while attending middle school. They debuted with “Cherry Flower” before appearing on the group’s 2009 album Rapsody. Through this, his former agency took notice of his talents then scouted him to sign a contract with the company in 2010.

Yongguk first debuted in K-pop with his husky voice and fierce flow that helped Song Ji-eun’s “Going Crazy” hit the number one spot on the Streaming charts during its release. From then, he was able to establish his name and it was soon announced that he would be the leader and main rapper of the new boy group, B.A.P that stands for Best, Absolute, Perfect. The group debuted in early 2012 with the gritty single “Warrior” that is part of their first EP which landed at number ten on Billboard’s World Albums chart. They consistently showcased the power of their music and performance with more self-produced singles such as Power, Stop It, No Mercy and One Shot that topped the Billboard World Albums chart in early 2013. Yongguk did not fail to demonstrate his raw talent and charisma when the group released their debut album, First Sensibility, which landed at number one on the Gaon albums chart.

During a brief hiatus in 2014 and 2015, Yongguk released the solo single “AM 4:44”. In spite of the break, B.A.P still find success through the end of the 2010s with their second Korean studio album, Noir (2016), and three Japanese-language LPs, Best.Absolute.Perfect (2016), Unlimited (2017), and Massive (2018).

Yongguk began his solo career when he decided not to renew his contract with his former agency, along with his members. He released “Hikikomori,” a compelling reflection of his fears and anxiety, followed by the second single “Journey” and a film (A Short Film About Bang Yongguk) in early 2019.

BANGYONGGUK, his debut album that displays his versatility and poignance was released on March 15, 2019 with 13-tracks lead by “Ya”.

He officially completed his military service on May 18, 2021 and established his own label, Consent which released his second album, 2, on March 22, 2022 with the title track, “Up”

Proving his musicality; unstoppable that he is, this year, he released “The Colors of Love” in May. Straightforward to its theme, he has the people he loves in mind as he write the songs for this album. The brightest one is “Green” which was inspired by movies and dramas, and of course, his dog.

Catch live on his first ever solo concert! Watch him live as he shares his various shared deep emotions through his music performances.

THE COLORS OF BANG YONGGUK in MANILA is happening THIS WEEK on July 14, 2023 at the Music Museum!
