Being stuck on years of training for an unpredictable debut is a big gamble for an idol. Just like any entertainment agencies, YG Ent. has a lot of hidden gems in their dungeon and one of it is Bang Yedam.
At the age of 10, Bang Yedam began his dream of being a singer by auditioning at SBS’ K-pop Star Season 2. That was when he first met YG’s Yang Hyun Suk. He made a big impression as a little kid with a soulful voice that can reach his audience. Yedam made it to the finals and even ranked as a second place. It was also his beginning as a YG trainee.
Yedam had already gain a lot of attention as he appeared on several YG artist’s video that time. He had a screen time on Winner TV and even on YG’s survival show WIN: Who is Next, where labelmates iKON and Winner first introduced.
Those were just several pre-debut appearances of Yedam. But the biggest one that made him even more popular was during the 2017 Mnet survival program of Stray Kidz together with his co-trainees. What made him outstanding was his performance of Shawn Mendez, “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back.” To date, the cover video already gained more than 30 million views. In addition, even the Canadian singer himself express his amazement on Yedam’s version.
A year after, YG made ‘YG Treasure Box’ – a survival show where Yedam is one of the contestant. Competing with 29 trainees, Yedam made it to the final and even first placed for the vocal line. And now, he is one of the main vocalist of the upcoming YG group TREASURE.
Last month, YG Entertainment made a big announcement regarding the group. It was revealed that Bang Yedam will first make a solo debut as a gift for everyone who had been waiting for 7 years since the K-Pop Star. However, there is no broadcast promotion as TREASURE will make its debut the next month on it.
Finally, the long wait for Bang Yedam is over. He just dropped his digital single entitled “Wayo.” Gaining a lot of reaction from YG stans and even support from his labelmates.
